Comprehensive Workplace Violence Prevention Training Programs

Updated: Dec 1, 2025

On the morning of November 11, 2025, 20-year-old welder Amber Czech was brutally killed at her workplace, Advanced Process Technologies (APT) in Cokato, Minnesota. Her coworker, 40-year-old David Bruce Delong, allegedly left his station, grabbed a sledgehammer from the shop floor, then walked to Czech’s workstation and struck her repeatedly. Emergency responders pronounced Czech dead at the scene after determining she suffered fatal head trauma and massive blood loss. Delong was taken into custody without incident and charged with second-degree murder. CBS News+2Yahoo+2

According to the criminal complaint, Delong later confessed that he “didn’t like her,” claimed she once gave him a bad look — and admitted he had been planning the attack for some time. Crime Online+2Red Lake Nation News+2 Those statements—and the fact that the assault was methodical and apparently premeditated—strongly suggest there were warning signs: deep-seated animosity, possible hostility, and a mindset capable of violence. The fact that “planning” was involved indicates this was not a spontaneous outburst.

This horrific case underlines the critical importance of robust workplace-violence prevention training. If the facility had programs to help employees and supervisors detect and report hostile behavior, harassment, or signs of aggression — or had a culture where coworkers felt safe reporting concerns — such escalation might have been prevented. Training, clear reporting protocols, mental-health resources, and management accountability aren’t optional extras; they are vital safeguards to protect every employee from threats before tragedy strikes.
